Last issue, I said I’d use this space to outline what I hope to do with Freelance Traveller in the coming year. Overall, it will be more of the same—fan support of Traveller in all of its forms—but there are some specific things that I would like to see happen (and which can, with your help and feedback).
First: Theme issues. I’d like to see at least two per year, not counting the issues following TravCon/UK and TravellerCON/USA. TravCon/UK generally happens in March, and TravellerCON/USA in October, so the May/June and November/December issues should generally focus on them. The other four issues per year are available for themes. I’ll be posting requests for theme-related articles to the TML, to the Mongoose and Citizens of the Imperium forums, to the RSS feed, and in #self-advertising and #random-sfw on the Traveller Discord.
Traveller: Prime Directive is expected to be released this year; if it comes to pass, I’d like the first issue subsequent to its release to use it as a theme (one of 2022’s two, if it happens), and I’d like you all to keep in mind that it will become a supported setting in Freelance Traveller.
Next: Traveller-related artwork. I’d like to see more of this, including maps, floor/deck plans, diagrams, character portraits, and so on; they don’t all have to be CAD or 3D renders with elaborate backgrounds. Artwork accompanying articles is fantastic, artwork as its own thing for the Multimedia Gallery is also fantastic; artwork submitted as fillers for the magazine, but not necessarily for the Gallery, is great.
I have some more ideas percolating around in the back of my head; if any of them solidify enough, I’ll bring them here.
This is where I make my usual request for more material from you; the stored articles are getting a bit thin on the ground again. Please, write! If you’re not seeing the kind of thing in Freelance Traveller you’d like, please email the editor and let me know; I’m always open to changes that the community wants, both in content and in style.
