Overview
Though the modular cutter has made quite a name for itself across Charted Space because of its versatility, many operators find that maintaining a fleet of compatible modules is not worth the expense. When the Imperial Navy issued a specification, just before the Fourth Frontier War, for a fast 50 ton craft, it specifically asked for high performance craft without the modules. Of the six or so designs submitted, LSP's Lushina won the competition. For political reasons the class was first deployed to the Spinward Marches, and did yeoman duty during the Fifth Frontier War against Zhodani raiders and forward observer teams. During the Black War period of the Rebellion/Imperial Civil War she gained a reputation for infamy, as many factions enlisted her nimble performance and small EM signature for insertion of the FO teams that directed orbital strike and planetary bombardment operations. The class is still the primary fast small craft of the Regency Navy, serving with most large dreadnaughts and cruisers. About three thousand of these craft serve with the Navy, another six hundred with RQS, fifteen hundred with various planetary naval and private users (usually older decommissioned hulls), and several hundred with the Darrian and Florian navies as well.
The Lushina is capable of nine hours of 6G acceleration, endurance better than any other standard Imperial Navy small craft. The craft is usually unarmed, using her stealth and small size to evade enemy detection. The craft's primary computer is backed up by a fiber optic computer that handles combat operations and maintenance. Seating is provided for a full 40 man marine platoon and their equipment, with two airlocks for their debussing, and the ship has a full range of commo options compatible with all of the technology available to Imperial ground and special ops troops. Externally the craft is an airframed cylinder with a raked, sinister appearance. Internally the craft is divided into two decks: an operations deck for the crew and carried personnel, and a drive through cargo deck large enough for small vehicles to be carried. Though the craft is primarily a troop transport, it was originally intended for recon and scouting roles, and many captains have enlisted her for casualty evac and decoy roles as well.
The Lushina Cutter is based upon the Adventure Ships 1 design by J. Andrew Keith, and was adapted from CT stats provided courtesy of Richard Perks.
