Overview

Before the Terrans could build jump drives in enough abundance to make available on the open market, most of their corporate and private shipowners had to make due with non-starships portaged from system to system by huge government owned tenders and carriers. The Chapparal is one such vessel built to satisfy the demands of both corporate executives and those well heeled individuals who wished to fulfill the dream of spaceflight. Given the reduced starflight capabilities of the New Era, Regency intelligence analysts expect a renaissance of this class and her contemporaries. Given that this design was the basis of several gunship and attack designs, this is a cause for moderate concern. The craft, with a slight change in configuration, became the engineering basis for the subcraft carried aboard the Coriolis Type B. All related classes of ships are named after forests or types of scrub.
