Stedlas-class (Zhodani) System Defense Boat

Overview

The Stedlas SDB was introduced by the Zhodani Consulate Navy during the Fourth Frontier War. Unlike many of its SDBs, the Consulate intended the new class as a premier signature of its power and influence. Heavily armored, carrying a Kia class heavy fighter, and armed with a 900 MJ Spinal NPAW, the class was simply to expensive for most of the Consulate's frontier worlds, limiting its distribution to high population worlds or major military installations.

After the Collapse, however, defense against rampaging Vampire ships caused the Zhodani admiralty to reevaluate their policies surrounding the Stedlas. Experimental studies had shown that NPAWs were highly effective against Virus infected computers, but also that the Consulate's local defense forces were experiencing a shortage of such craft. To compensate for these new realities, a less expensive "frontier" model was introduced in 1139. It featured a smaller 490 MJ NPAW, carried troops and a cutter for inspection duties, and downgraded the armor to manageable levels. While the class was still more expensive than the average SDB, the Consulate managed to deploy the economy version on a 2:1 ratio to the older ships. After the Rape of Trin, the Regency of Deneb obtained a limited license for manufacturing this version for its own local planetary forces: about two hundred of the class exist in Denebian livery, scattered all along its long borders with frontier navies. These ships are a frequent and feared sight to the many smugglers and Pack thugs that challenge the Quarantine regulations.

Note: The Stedlas was originally designed for Adventure Ships 1 (FASA) by J. Andrew Keith. Stats from that book provided courtesy of Christian Mcdonald-Kelley
